About Our Program

Our Recreational Soccer Program is designed to teach players the fundamentals of soccer in a safe, fun and learning environment. We focus on skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. We offer recreational soccer in the Spring and Fall outdoor seasons for ages 4 through 8th Grade.

  • Recreational soccer divisions are based on the players age on the day of the first game of the season, not parental choice. There are limited exceptions.
  • Playing Up: As a benefit/incentive for Head Coaches, they may choose to have their child(ren), on the team they will be personally coaching, play up one division. MSI Board Members may also adjust the division a player is on according to skill level, or recommendation from a coach. This can also help MSI build viable teams and divisions.
  • Division Exceptions: MSi reserves the right to adjust divisions for players that have birthdays nearest the cutoff dates in order to help build viable teams and divisions.

Rules

Murphysboro Soccer Inc. follows the IYSA Laws of the Game. The game may be modified, with fewer rules for the lower divisions. At older levels nearly all the rules are in effect.

Eligibility

Any boy or girl that will be 4-14 years old on the date of the first game of the season. See the calendar for the exact date. MSI Recreational soccer divisions and teams are based on the number of volunteer coaches. You do not need to live in Murphysboro to play. We are here to provide youth soccer to all our surrounding communities as well.

When and Where are the Games?

Recreational games for all divisions are played on weekdays and Saturdays. The Spring season begins mid-March and the Fall season begins Mid September. See the Calendar for the exact dates. Game start times can vary from 8am to noon on Saturdays and after 5pm on weekdays. Field information can be found here.

When and Where are Practices?

Practice times and field locations are determined by each team’s head coach. Practices generally start the week following the player draft. Practices are generally held one or two times per week, 60-90 minutes, with longer practices for older teams.

Game Cancellations

Games are cancelled for lightning and/or flooded fields. Rain, sleet, wind and snow do not stop soccer. Dress appropriately. Games are not cancelled by coaches, it is a MSI Board decision 30 minutes prior. Games that have reached half-time will not be rescheduled. The final score stands. Cancelling practices is up to each coach.

Registration Fees

PreK – 5th Grade – $55.00

6th – 8th Grade – $70.00

Refunds

The last day for a refund will be posted on the recreational calendar for the season. This will generally be the after the first game is played. The refund will be for the full amount paid. All refunds are at the discretion of the MSI Board Members.

Travel Teams

Murphysboro Soccer Inc. does offer the opportunity for travel tournament play. These teams are based on participation numbers for each age division and coach availability. Team size is limited to the max roster number for each division. With this, a tryout or player skill level may be taken into accord when team selection is made. Talk to your child(s) coach about travel tournament soccer if interested.

Tournament fee is $25 per player for each tournament played. (I.e., 1 tournament $25, 2 tournaments $50, 3 tournaments $75, etc.)
Tournament uniforms and price are at the discretion of the team’s coach.

Travel tournaments are hosted by Rec Soccer programs across Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri. For an idea of possible travel time, tournaments have been hosted by Marion, IL, Harrisburg, IL, Cape Girardeau, MO, Perryville, MO, Jackson, MO, and Sikeston, MO.

Coaching and Volunteer Opportunities

We are always looking for parent/adult volunteers to help by coaching a Recreational soccer team. Murphysboro Soccer Inc. would not exist without the help from our Volunteers. MSI provides training programs for parents/adult volunteers interested in coaching. Not interested in coaching but still want to help? MSI also needs volunteers for our concession stand, grounds and field maintenance as well as Board Members. We hope you will consider helping the MSI Recreational Soccer Program by coaching or volunteering. If interested please contact murphysborofc@gmail.com

Want to Join The Club?

Our organization’s continued success relies on volunteers. We are always in need of coaches regardless of soccer knowledge. Whether you’re helping on the field, on the sidelines, or in the concession stand, we’d love to talk to you about how you can get involved!
